[ back to current exhibits ]

The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum of Chicago Illinois included two of Sergio Hernandez's paintings in its 2003 Dia de los Muertos: Reflections of the Soul exhibition. The showing included the works of over thirty artists from all across the Southwest of the United States and parts of Mexico. Sergio's paintings Dia de los Muertos (at left), and Death takes Frida were the works shown in the exhibition.

The show presented fine art painting and printmaking, as well as traditional Mexican crafts like ceramics and papier mâché that are associated with Day of the Dead celebrations. The public also took advantage of art workshops that offered instruction in making Sugar Skulls (calaveras de azucar) and Day of the Dead Bread (Pan de Muertos).
