HISTORY"
1970. UCLA Mural Painting. 12 by 30
feet.
This
painting is credited as being the
very first Chicano mural painted
anywhere in the United States. The work
was created in Campbell Hall on the
University of California Los Angeles
(UCLA) campus. The mural project
was organized by Artist/Teacher, Saul
Solache.

| Mr.
Solache appointed Artists Ramses Noriega,
Eduardo Carrillo, and yours truly...
Sergio Hernandez, to help paint the historic
mural. I was only 19 at the time, so working
on the project was exhilarating and it helped
give me the confidence to pursue Art. The mural
was painted in oil on wood panels, and each
Artist was responsible for a particular section.
I designed and painted the central motif of
the Man and Woman facing the spirit of Quetzalcoatl.
I've heard that the mural was taken down around
1990 and stored at the Ghetty Museum.
