PLUTARCO AGUIRRE
20" x 26"
Pastel on Paper- 2002

This is a portrait of my wife's great grandfather, Plutarco. He lived in Saucillo Mexico before coming to the U.S. in 1910. Pancho Villa's revolutionary army passed through Plutarco's small ranch to rest. One of the soldiers spotted Plutarco's horse and wanted it for himself. Plutarco refused to let him take it, saying, "over my dead body." Pancho Villa interceded and told Plutarco that he was a very brave man to stand up to his soldier.

Villa told Plutarco he could keep his horse. But Plutarco knew he had made an enemy of the soldier. Soon after he took his wife and five children and made the perilous journey north to the United States. By doing so he changed the lives of countless family members to come (recently purchased and now in a private collection). Purchase this artwork
