My drawing
portrays a Dakota Sioux Warrior from the period before
major contact with Whites.The
Warrior wears a traditional painted and fringed leather
shirt decorated with dyed Porcupine quills. Before the plains
tribes acquired glass beads from White traders, they developed
the highly sophisticated craft of dying Porcupine quills
and weaving them into intricate patterns on clothing, and
other personal affects. The Warrior is also wrapped in a
traditional Buffalo robe.
