This is the first painting I created of Tiburcio Vasquez, the famous Chicano bandit who resisted the Anglo conquest of California. Since the first time I visited Vasquez Rocks in Aqua Dulce I found the area to be beautiful and mysterious. Jagged outcroppings that look like a lunar landscape are said to have once hid Vasquez and his gang.
